Our History

Open Eyes is a high-impact evangelism and discipleship ministry focused on Central America. Founded in 1999 by Terry & Arlene duPont, the ministry has spread from Nicaragua to Honduras and Costa Rica. Since that time, the mission in Nicaragua has grown to become its own ministry.

As of September 30, 2019, Terry and Arlene have retired from the field and are now enjoying other ministry opportunities in the states and time with grandchildren and we wish them all the joy and blessing God has to offer and are thankful for what they work so hard to build over the years.

Our focus today, under our new Director, Pamela Castellón, and with God’s guidance is on Honduras and Costa Rica.

About our Director

Pamela was raised with no Christian beliefs, but she was taught that there was a God who was the creator of everything and that she could always come to Him when needed. She was blessed with a good bilingual education, hard-working and loving parents, as well as 2 younger sisters.

In her words, “I remember not liking Christians because in Honduras they are too loud! I grew up next door to a church and I always gave them a hard time. During Easter week, 2007, my family was invited to a retreat at my grandparents farm. We decided to go, and Praise God, my entire family and I got saved! God came into my life when I thought I had it all; when I thought I didn’t need Him. Not really knowing what this was all about but excited to find out, the Sunday after revival, my Pastor asked me to help him welcoming some north American missionaries visiting the church, so I did. That was the day I met Terry & Arlene duPont and Open Eyes Ministries. God had a plan through it all. He prepared the way. He prepared me because He knew that one day I would be serving him with all my gifts, talents, and soul.

Pamela works sacrificially to ensure that the ministry of Open Eyes is honoring to the Kingdom so that lives will continue to be impacted in Central America.

About our Ministries

Open Eyes is a high-impact evangelism & discipleship ministry focused on Central America. In 20+ years of ministry we have seen millions of lives changed through feeding centers, school programs, orphanages, evangelism, and leadership training. Open Eyes strives to use the gifts and talents of those who come along side to enlarge God’s Kingdom.

Throughout the year, we also host many short-term mission teams. These teams are a vital part of changing lives throughout Central America. For many, a trip with Open Eyes represents the first time traveling internationally as well as intentionally sharing the gospel, and we value their support.

It is our goal to provide every mission team a safe, fulfilling, and memorable experience while they serve on the mission field. We benefit by receiving the energy and the support of our teams, and the enrichment we feel by witnessing the work of the Holy Spirit, but the teams also benefit by the heart change they experience while serving with us.
